Gettysburg (1-1) jumped to an early 1-0 lead as senior
Emily Hall (Reston, Va./The Hill School) plated the game's first run with a double to left field in the opening frame.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) retired the first nine hitters she faced, including four by strikeout. Reilly ran into a little trouble in the fourth inning, allowing a lead-off walk and a single. After getting the next two outs, an error allowed both base runners to score to lift Penn State in front 2-1.
In the top of the seventh, freshman
Mykaela Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) led off the frame with a pinch-hit double. With one out in the board, Tighe stroked a hot shot down the left-field line that found its way past the diving fielder. The Bullet speedster came all the way around to score the go-ahead run in addition to registering her first career four-bagger.
Reilly retired the final seven batters she faced to complete the victory. She finished with five strikeouts, one walk, and three hits over seven innings.
Tighe and Hall each produced a pair of hits to pace Gettysburg.
The Bullets managed just four hits in a 12-1 loss to No. 22 Rowan (5-0) in the first game of the day. After three scoreless innings, the Profs busted out for five runs in the top of the fourth.
Gettysburg put one run on the board in the fifth as freshman
Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), who led off the inning with a triple, came around to score on a wild pitch.
Rowan put the game to rest with seven runs in the sixth inning.
Tighe picked up a hit and a stolen base, while junior
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) tallied a single and a walk.
