Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College softball team dropped in 13 runs in the in the third inning of game two to help salvage a split with Muhlenberg College in a Centennial Conference twinbill Sunday afternoon.
Gettysburg (23-5, 8-2 CC) dropped the opener 8-5 after surrendering five unearned runs to Muhlenberg (11-9, 6-3 CC). The Bullets bounced back big in the nightcap, sending 19 batters to the plate in the third frame and pulling away for a 16-0 win.
Muhlenberg took the lead in game one with five runs in the second inning. The Mules produced all their runs without the benefit of a hit.
Gettysburg left the bases loaded in the second before getting one run back in the third on freshman
Mykaela Twitchell's (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) first collegiate home run. Two more defensive miscues by the hosts helped the Mules tack on three more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-1.
Trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Gettysburg mounted a comeback. The Bullets loaded the bases and senior
Ashley Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy) drew a walk to bring in the first run. Two more runs came across via a wild pitch and passed ball, but the comeback was cut short with a pop-foul out to first base.

Steph Zengel (High Bridges, N.J./North Hunterdon) each produced two hits, a run, and an RBI. Sophomore
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) also posted a pair of hits and a run.
A different story unfolded in the nightcap. Gettysburg loaded the bags with consecutive singles to start the second frame, but a double-play at home and first put the Mules on the brink of getting out of the jam. Senior
Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) slapped a two-run single to left-center to bring in the first two runs. After stealing second base with a nice slide around the tag, Tighe sped home to score on a double to left by Abell to make it 3-0.
Nearly everything went right for the Bullets in the bottom of the third inning. The hosts posted 13 runs on eight hits with Muhlenberg also committing three errors in the frame. Freshman
Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) brought home two runs with a double, while Tighe and sophomore
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) each accounted for two RBI. Zengel plated the final run with a single to become the fifth Bullet all-time to reach 100 RBI in a career.
Freshman
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) tied the program record for wins by a freshman by earning her 12th of the year. She allowed just two hits while fanning three.
All nine starting position players notched a hit for Gettysburg. Tighe finished 2-for-2 with two runs, four RBI, and three stolen bases. Junior
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) and Iannone each went 2-for-2 with an RBI, the former scoring a pair of runs and the latter scoring three runs. Leonardo went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Gettysburg hosts Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, April 14, at 3 p.m.
