Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. – Sophomore
Lauren Godshalk (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) put down the match-clinching kill in the fourth set to seal a 3-1 victory by the Gettysburg College volleyball team in a non-conference match at Shenandoah University Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (6-5) took advantage of early errors by Shenandoah (5-4) to grab a 2-0 lead. The Hornets committed 22 hitting errors in the opening two frames as the Bullets won both sets by identical 25-21 scores. The hosts came back to win the third set 25-22, but Gettysburg polished off the win with a 25-20 victory in set four.
The Bullets featured a well-balanced attack that was led by junior
Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) with eight kills. Seniors
Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and
Joosje Grevers (Westport, Conn./Staples) each posted seven kills, while Godshalk tallied six kills. Morrow also recorded seven blocks.
Freshman
Rachel Gombatz (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) dished out 19 assists. Sophomore
Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) put up 23 digs and senior
Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added eight digs.
Gettysburg hosts a tri-match with Ursinus College and Hood College on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Bullets face the Bears at noon before taking on the Blazers at 4 p.m.
