Three-point Barrage Lifts Bullets Past Mules

Gettysburg knocks down 10 threes in 75-67 victory

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's basketball team knocked down 10 three-pointers, including seven in the second half, to get by host Muhlenberg College 75-67 inside Memorial Hall on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (12-3, 7-1 CC), which remained in second place in the Centennial Conference, connected on 10 three-pointers for the second-straight game. The Bullets have hit six or more threes in 14 consecutive games. Four Bullets reached double-figures in the win paced by junior Cody Kiefer's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) 18 points.
 
Muhlenberg (7-7, 4-4 CC) led for most of the opening half. A jumper by Erik Werheim gave the hosts their largest lead of the game at 12-7 with 13:14 to go before halftime. A seven-point spurt by Gettysburg capped by a three-pointer by sophomore Cam Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) gave the visitors a 14-12 advantage midway through the period.
 
A Kevin Miller jumper on the ensuing possession handed the lead back to Muhlenberg and the Mules would relinquish the upper-hand only once more for the remainder of the period, taking a 30-28 lead into the locker room.
 
Two quick buckets in the opening minute of the second half gave Gettysburg the lead for good. Following a tie at 32-32, Stewart and Kiefer knocked down back-to-back three-pointers. Another three-pointer by sophomore Alex Kaslander (Verona, N.J./Verona) a few minutes later put the Bullets in front by nine (46-37) with 14:22 to play.
 
Muhlenberg never let the deficit reach double-figures and managed to slice it down to three points twice in the final 3:48. With Gettysburg holding onto to a 65-62 advantage, Stewart canned his fourth three-pointer of the game with 1:47 remaining. The Bullets hit seven free throws in the final 55 seconds to put the game to rest.
 
Gettysburg finished 23-of-47 (48.9 percent) from the floor, including 10-of-23 (43.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Bullets held a slight advantage on the glass at 31-29.
 
Joining Kiefer in double-figures was Stewart with 16 points. Junior Tanner Kirkpatrick (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Kaslander each posted a dozen points with the former also dishing out five assists and grabbing six rebounds.
 
Owen McLeod led Muhlenberg with 17 points. John Hunter and Nick Rindock each tallied a dozen points, while Brandon LaRose posted 10 points and six assists.
 
Gettysburg hosts No. 17 Franklin & Marshall College (13-2, 8-0 CC) on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m.
