Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's basketball team jumped to a 28-point halftime lead and never looked back, downing Haverford College 92-47 in a Centennial Conference (CC) tilt Saturday afternoon in Bream Gym.
All 10 players who entered the game found the scoring column and grabbed at least two rebounds for the Bullets (9-3, 4-1 CC), who shot a season-best 56.1 percent from the field.
Junior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) led another balanced Gettysburg scoring effort, posting 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Sophomore forward
Cam Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) added 15 points and six rebounds while junior guard
Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) scored 14 points on 4-of-6 3-point shooting. Sophomore guard
Matt England (Warrington, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) notched 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Bullets posted their first 90-point game since a 90-76 victory over Ursinus College on Jan. 8, 2014, and their 92 points marked the team's highest scoring output since a 95-87 win over Salem State University on March 7, 2008 in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. In addition, the team's 45-point win marked the team's largest margin of victory since an 89-41 win over Susquehanna University on Jan. 5, 1959.
Gettysburg out-rebounded Haverford 48-23 and held the Fords to 29.8 percent shooting.
Joe Scibelli posted 15 points and eight rebounds to pace Haverford (2-9, 0-4 CC).
Gettysburg broke the game open early on, using a 17-4 run to go ahead 25-11 with 8:48 showing in the opening half. The Fords trailed 30-17 with 6:11 left before the Bullets ended the half on a 20-5 surge to take a 50-22 advantage into the locker room. Christ scored 11 of his points during the run, which was capped by a lay-up from junior forward
Tanner Kirkpatrick (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) two seconds before the horn.
The Bullets continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Haverford 15-4 to open the stanza. The lead ballooned to 46 after a lay-up from freshman forward
Mateus Maccieri (Reggio Emilia, Italy/John Carroll School) with 10:08 remaining, and it reached as much 48 on a 3-pointer from sophomore guard
Alex Kaslander (Verona, N.J./Verona) with 4:35 showing.
Kirkpatrick contributed eight points and six rebounds while senior center
Kevin Gladstone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) logged seven points, six rebounds, and five assists. Kaslander pitched in with seven points and four assists while sophomore forward
Rahmi Halaby (Media, Pa./Penncrest) blocked three shots. In addition, freshman guard
Matt Palacio (Katonah, N.J./John Jay) scored the first four points of his career.
Gettysburg returns home on Tuesday, when it takes on Washington College at 6 p.m. in another Centennial Conference affair.
