Alex Kaslander (Verona, N.J./Verona) netted 14 points apiece as the Gettysburg College men's basketball team closed its regular season on a high note, topping Ursinus College 91-69 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Monday evening in Bream Gym.
Gettysburg held Senior Night ceremonies before the game to honor Gladstone, the team's lone senior.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Feb. 13 but was postponed due to an outbreak of gastro-intestinal illness on the campus of Ursinus.
The Bullets (17-8, 12-6 CC), who have posted their highest victory total since the 2008-09 season, finished in a tie with Dickinson College for third place in the Centennial Conference standings. However, the Red Devils earned the No. 3 seed due to a tiebreaking procedure. Gettysburg will enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed and will host fifth-seeded McDaniel College in the CC first-round game on Wednesday at a time to be determined.
Gettysburg trailed just once on the evening and seized command midway through the opening half with a 10-0 run. The Bullets took a 44-27 lead into halftime and never saw their lead dip below 17 in the second half.
Junior forward
Tanner Kirkpatrick (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added 10 points for the Bullets, who posted their second-highest scoring output of the season. All 13 Gettysburg players entered the game, with 10 Bullets playing at least 10 minutes.
Malik Draper led Ursinus (11-14, 7-11 CC) with 19 points while Eric Williams contributed 14 points for the Bears.
The Bullets led just 18-13 before embarking on their key run. Kirkpatrick kicked off the spurt with a jumper before Christ knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers. A lay-up from sophomore forward
Cam Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) made it 28-13 with 10:20 left in the opening half, and junior center
Mlynue Reeves (Washington, D.C./Church Farm School [D.C.]) knocked down a jumper with 56 seconds left to hand Gettysburg its 17-point halftime advantage.
Kaslander registered nine points and five rebounds in the opening half for the Bullets.
Gettysburg settled any doubt midway through the second half with a 9-1 run to open up a commanding 25-point lead (65-40) with 11:34 remaining. Gettysburg saw its lead balloon to 31 down the stretch, and Reeves provided an exclamation mark with a dunk in the final minute.
The Bullets shot 51.6 percent for the night, including 42.9 percent (9-for-21) from 3-point range.
