Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore
Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman
Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) each twirled three-hit shutouts as Gettysburg College wrapped up its spring trip with a pair of victories.
Gettysburg (10-2) didn't need much from its offense on the way to a 4-0 win over Hunter College (1-1) and an 8-0 win over Mount Aloysius College (2-8). Reilly allowed only five balls to leave the infield in the opener – three on hits and two on fly outs. The sophomore retired 13 batters on groundouts and struck out six. She improved her record to 6-2 with a miniscule 0.65 ERA this spring.
The only Hunter runner to reach scoring position came in the second inning following a lead-off double. That runner was left stranded at third after a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.
Sophomore
Mykaela Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) scored the game's first run after leading off with a double in the first inning. Senior
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) brought her home with a single, marking the senior's 111th career RBI and moving her into a tie for fourth in program history.
Gettysburg tacked on two unearned runs in the fourth. The first came home on a single by sophomore
Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School), while the second scored on an error by the first baseman. Folfas added another run-scoring single in the sixth to set the final score.
Folfas went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Junior
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) scored a pair of runs and stole two bases.
Clauser set the tone in game two by striking out the first two batters of the game. Only two Mountie runners reached second base in the outing. The first was stranded at the top of the diamond in the second inning, while the second was thrown out by left fielder
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) attempting to reach third base.
After coming up empty in the first inning, Gettysburg scored runs in each of the final four frames. Abell doubled in the game's first run and came around to score on a single by Twitchell in the second. The Bullets plated four runs in the third inning, including a bases-clearing double by freshman
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington). Taylor added another RBI on a single in the fourth and Folfas put the game to an end with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Clauser improved to 4-0 with the win. The first-year struck out four and walked one.
Taylor went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBI, while Twitchell and Folfas each posted two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Gettysburg returns to action in two weeks with its home opener against Stevenson University on Thursday, March 24, at 3 p.m.
