Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) capped a game one rally with a walk-off single and the Gettysburg College baseball team came away with a doubleheader split versus Coast Guard on Friday during the team's Spring Break trip to Florida.
Â
The Bullets (6-3) won the opener 4-3 but were edged 7-6 in the nightcap.
Â
In the opener, Gettysburg trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh when sophomore
Logan Sneed (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) provided a spark with a leadoff pinch-hit single versus starter Luke Sniatkowski. Senior
Luke Lawrence (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) followed up with single of his own before sophomore
Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) tied the game with a triple to left. Sniatkowski retired the next two batters before Klimowicz singled into center for the game-winning RBI.
Â
The rally made a winner of junior
Rich Power (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), who tossed his second-consecutive complete game. Power (3-0) scattered seven hits, walked none, and struck out six, the last of which gave him 100 punch-outs for his career.
Â
Probst and junior
Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) each went 2-for-3 to lead the Bullets at the plate.
Â
The Bears (5-4) took a 1-0 lead when they scratched out an unearned run in the top of the first. Gettysburg came back to tie it with an unearned run of its own in the second. Coast Guard pushed across single runs in the fourth and sixth before the Bullets' late rally.
Â
Sniatkowski (1-1) also worked a complete game for the Bears, yielding eight hits and one walk while striking out three.
Â
Gettysburg was hurt by six errors in the nightcap, which led to six unearned runs. The Bullets took a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the top of the first, which was capped by an RBI-double from senior
Andy Kelley (Newtown, Conn./Newtown).
Â
The Bears answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning on three hits, two errors, and one walk versus junior starter
Eric Brown (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge). All four runs were unearned.
Â
Gettysburg reclaimed the lead with a two-run second, getting RBI-singles from Tom and junior
Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), but Coast Guard tied it at 5-5 with one run on one hit and two errors in the third. Coast Guard took the lead for good with a two-run fifth on two hits, one error, and one hit batsman.
Â
The Bullets nearly pulled even with another rally in the seventh. Junior
John Convery (Media, Pa./Penncrest) led off with a single and scored two batters later on a double from Anderson. However, Colton Cannon left the tying run on second when he induced a popout and groundout to end the game.
Â
Anderson finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the nightcap, when Convery was 2-for-2. Sophomore
Andrew Jacobson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) added a pair of hits while Brown (1-1) worked a six-inning complete game and struck out four.
