Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Logan Sneed (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) went 5-for-5, tying a school record for hits in a game, and the Gettysburg College baseball team defeated Penn State York 13-2 in its home opener at a sunny and windy Kirchhoff Field Friday afternoon.

Every starter hit safely for the Bullets (8-4), who outhit the Nittany Lions 21-9.

Sneed missed the cycle by a home run, finishing with a double, triple, and three runs scored. He joined numerous others who have collected hits in a game; most recently, junior Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) achieved the feat when he did it twice last season, the last coming in a 21-6 win over Ursinus College on April 12.

Junior Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, two runs, and three RBIs while senior Andy Kelley (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. Tom, senior Luke Lawrence (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), senior Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), and senior Steve Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) all added two hits apiece while Lawrence also scored three runs.

Junior Eric Brown (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) earned the win for the Bullets, scattering nine hits over seven hits while walking two and striking out six. He blanked the Nittany Lions through the first six innings.

Nicholas Schuler and Brady Lefever collected two hits apiece for Penn State York, which was playing its season opener.

Gettysburg jumped on starter Hunter Thomas with eight runs over the first three innings. The Bullets sent nine batters to the plate in the first, when Anderson blasted a towering triple off the rightfield fence to drive home the first two runs of the game. The Orange and Blue would score two additional runs in the first, then push across three more in the second, which was capped by a two-run single from Kelley that made it 7-0.

A sacrifice fly from Tom pushed Gettysburg's lead to 8-0 in the third before Thomas settled in to shut out the Bullets over the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bullets tacked on five more runs over the sixth and seventh versus reliever Levi Stein, who was greeted by three-straight extra-base hits in the sixth. Anderson led off with a double before Klimowicz and Kelley clubbed back-to-back triples. Kelley went on to score as Gettysburg's lead swelled to 11-0.

Brown (2-1) was in command early on, and four of York's first-five hits did not leave the infield. The Lions broke up his shutout bid in the seventh, loading the bases on three singles to start the inning before a fielder's choice gave the visitors their first lead. Another single made it 11-2 before Brown ended the inning with a strikeout.

Gettysburg added a pair of runs in the seventh to set the final score. Sneed led off with a triple before scoring on an Anderson single, and Wright drove in the game's final run with a double.

Sophomore Ryan Janiga (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh School) pitched a three-up, three-down eighth for the Bullets before junior Jonathan Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's) came on to throw a perfect ninth. Each struck out one.

The Bullets pick up their schedule on Saturday, when they visit Mount Aloysius College at 12:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
