Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Logan Sneed (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy) tied a school record for the second time in eight days while junior Aaron Bezio (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win as Gettysburg defeated Penn State Mont Alto 14-2 in a non-conference baseball game at a windswept Kirchhoff Field on Friday.

Sneed finished 5-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs to equal the Gettysburg standard for hits in a game once again. The third baseman became the 12th player in school history to achieve the feat when he was 5-for-5 last Friday in a win over Penn State York. After lining out in his first at-bat versus Mont Alto, he singled in five straight at-bats.

Bezio (3-1) fired four perfect innings to start the game, retiring his first 12 batters before allowing two runs on four singles in the fifth. For the game, he yielded just five hits and one walk while striking out seven. Bezio also threw six perfect innings to open the game in a win over Finlandia back on March 7 in Florida.

Gettysburg (11-6) outhit the Nittany Lions 17-6, with senior Luke Lawrence (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), junior Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser), senior Shawn Moffitt (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), and senior Steve Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) all finishing with two hits. Lawrence also scored three runs and had a pair of RBIs.

Junior Jonathan Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's) and sophomore Ryan Janiga (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh School) combined to throw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Bullets.

Jeremiah Younker went 2-for-4 to lead Mont Alto (1-11).

The Bullets supported Bezio with six runs through the first four innings before breaking it open with a four-run fourth, which was capped by a two-run double from senior Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and an RBI-triple from Tom that made it 8-0.

After the Lions pushed across two in the fifth, Bezio worked a three-up, three-down sixth. But he ran into trouble in the seventh, when Mont Alto put runners on first and second with one out. However, Lucido came on to induce an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

Gettysburg padded its lead with six runs on nine hits over its final three innings. In the meantime, Lucido blanked the Lions in the eighth before Janiga shut the door with a perfect ninth.

Koby Griest (0-2) started on the mound for Mont Alto and suffered the loss, yielding nine runs (three earned) on 10 hits through six innings.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they visit Penn State Altoona at 12:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader. The games will be played at Peoples Natural Gas Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates' Double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve.
