Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Gettysburg College baseball team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 6-4 decision to Rockford University Tuesday afternoon on the third day of the team's Spring Break trip to Florida.
Â
Junior
Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) led the Bullets (5-1) offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and three RBIs, while freshman
Will Wortmann (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Â
Rockford (5-1) scored all of its runs in the third inning on five hits, two walks, and a hit batsman versus Bullet starter
Chase Stopyra (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and Wortmann. A two-run single put Rockford up 2-0 before a bases-loaded single made it 3-0. Wortmann was then summoned out of the bullpen, and the Regents pushed across three more runs on a pair of singles sandwiched around a fielder's choice.
Â
Wortmann settled in, however, and blanked Rockford over the final six innings, striking out four and yielding only four hits the rest of the way.
Â
The Bullets scored all four of their runs off Regent starter Thomas Bolen (1-0) over the fourth and fifth innings. Anderson doubled and scored on an error in the fourth, then delivered a three-run triple in the fifth. However, Bolen escaped with a strikeout, and the Bullets were held to one hit the rest of the way despite threatening in each of the final two innings. Gettysburg had runners on first and second with two out in the eighth, but reliever Brady Frank came on to induce an inning-ending groundout.
Â
In the ninth, the Bullets loaded the bases when junior
John Convery (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and Anderson walked and junior
Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) reached on an error. But that's when the Regents called on Adam O'Malley, who ended the game with a groundout to pick up the save.

Gettysburg takes a day off on Wednesday before returning to the diamond on Thursday, when it faces Carroll University at 3 p.m.
