Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman
Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) combined to allow just five hits and sophomore
Mykaela Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Bullets to a sweep of Ursinus College at Bobby Jones Field.
Gettysburg (20-4, 7-1 CC), which extended its winning streak to seven games, posted a pair of shutouts against Ursinus (8-14, 2-6 CC). Reilly allowed just three hits and struck out five in seven innings as the Bullets won the opener 3-0. The offense picked it up with an 8-0 win in the nightcap as Clauser gave up a pair of hits and fanned five in five innings of work.
Reilly and Kaitlyn Willis each went through the opposing team's lineups once without allowing a hit. After the Bears picked up the game's first base hit in top of the fourth, Gettysburg turned in the game's first run in the bottom of the frame. Junior
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) led off with a single, stole second, and darted home on a two-out single by sophomore
Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School).
A double by junior
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) gave the hosts a 2-0 lead after five innings. Ursinus' best chance at getting on the board came in the top of the sixth. The Bears loaded the bases after an infield single and back-to-back walks with two outs, but Casale tracked down a long fly out in center field to close the inning.
Twitchell provided the game's last run by smashing a laser over the right-field fence to kick off the sixth inning.
Reilly picked up her conference-leading 11th win with the decision. It was also her fourth shutout of the campaign.
Both teams managed just one hit through the first 3.5 innings of the second game. Gettysburg revved up the offense with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Folfas and freshman
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) each posted RBI singles to push the Bullets in front 2-0.
The Bullets ended the contest early with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore
Jessica Casale (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) smashed a double off the fence to score the first run and came home to score on a ground out by Abell. Twitchell made it a 5-0 lead with an opposite field blast off the scoreboard in left field.
Senior
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) doubled in another run and Misurell put the game to bed with a run-scoring single through the left side.
Clauser remained perfect on the year at 9-0 and earned her third shutout.
Twitchell and Folfas each went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Senior
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) went 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk. Zengel also became just the second player in Centennial Conference history to reach 50 career doubles with a two-bagger in the fifth inning.
Gettysburg faces Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference twinbill on Tuesday, April 12, at 3 p.m.
