HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Gettysburg College baseball team lost both ends of a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader at Haverford College in its regular-season finale on Saturday.
Â
The Fords won the first game 26-2 before capturing the nightcap 9-3.
Â
However, there was also good news for the Bullets on Saturday, as a loss by Washington College clinched a conference playoff berth for Gettysburg (24-15-1, 10-7-1 CC). The Orange and Blue will enter the tournament as the fourth seed and visit top-seeded and 27th-ranked Johns Hopkins University in a first-round game on Thursday.
Â
In the opener, Haverford (24-12, 13-5 CC) jumped on top early with a six-run second, and starter Steve Ridings (5-2) would blank the Bullets over five innings of work. Gettysburg broke up the shutout with a two-run seventh to make it 10-2, but the Fords erupted for 16 runs in the eighth, which included a pair of grand slams.
Â
Senior
Shawn Moffitt (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) finished 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Bullets at the plate. Junior

Steve Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) and
Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) each smacked RBI singles in the inning, which was aided by three Haverford errors. However, starter Jared Deveau (2-0) would shut out the Bullets over the next five innings before a pair of relievers combined for three scoreless frames.
Â
Haverford came back with two runs in the bottom of the first versus junior starter
Chase Stopyra (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), then went in front for good with a three-run second that made it 5-3. The Fords would tack on four runs over their final three innings to set the final score.
