Box Score
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior center
Mlynue Reeves (Washington, D.C./Church Farm School [Pa.]) scored a career-high 20 points and the Gettysburg College men's basketball team shot a red-hot 52.0 percent (13-for-25) from 3-point range en route to an 87-58 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at Haverford College Tuesday evening.
Making just his second career start, Reeves was a brilliant 10-for-11 from the field and added seven rebounds for the Bullets (4-9, 3-3 CC), who never trailed and broke the game open with a 47-10 run that spanned both halves.
While Reeves took care of business in the post, five other Bullets connected for at least one 3-pointer as Gettysburg posted its top performance from beyond the arc in nearly seven years. Freshman guards
Nick Lord (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and
Nick Antolini (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) provided much of the damage, combining for 35 points and nine 3-pointers. Lord netted a season-high 19 points while shooting 5-of-7 from long range while Antolini notched season-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds, shooting 4-of-9 from distance.
Gettysburg's 13 3-pointers made were the most by the Bullets since they also nailed 13 treys in an 83-42 win over Dickinson College on Feb. 17, 2010.
Senior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) contributed another strong all-around performance for Gettysburg, recording 11 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Freshman guard
Danny Duffey (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) chipped in with six points and a season-high five assists.
Eleven different Bullets found their way into the scoring column as Gettysburg posted its highest scoring output in a game ending in regulation this season.
The Bullets also registered a season-high in rebounds, out-boarding the Fords 44-30, and dished out a season-best 21 assists.
Matt Sherman led Haverford (2-10, 1-5 CC) with 13 points.
The Bullets scored the first six points of the game, but it was a close contest throughout much of the first half. The Orange and Blue led just 21-19 with 5:52 left in the period, but that's when Gettysburg made its move, ending the half on a 20-2 run to assume its 18-point lead at the intermission. Five different Bullets scored during the decisive surge, capped by an Antolini triple with 47 seconds left.
Lord scored 13 points in the first half, when Gettysburg shot 62.5 percent (15-for-24) from the field. Reeves netted 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting in the opening period.
The run continued into the second half, when the Bullets outscored Haverford 27-8 to open the stanza and open up a 68-31 lead with 13:38 left. Gettysburg knocked down five 3-pointers during the run.
Gettysburg saw its lead reach 38 (70-32) with 12:26 to go, and despite an 11-0 Ford run midway through the half, the Bullets led by at least 25 the rest of the way.
Gettysburg continues its three-game week on Thursday, when it hosts Muhlenberg College at 6 p.m. in another Centennial Conference affair.
