COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) tied a season-high with 23 points, but host Ursinus College used a big second half to hand the Bullets a 79-66 loss in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (4-11, 3-5 CC) led by two at the half, only to see the Bears (9-6, 6-2 CC) put up 47 points in the second half, when it shot 60.7 percent from the field.

Kiefer also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds while playing all but two minutes in the game. Senior guard
Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) contributed 14 points off the bench, shooting 4-for-8 from 3-point range.

Matt Knowles scored a game-high 25 points for Ursinus, which broke the game open with an 18-3 run early in the second period. Zach Quattro and Remi Janicot added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bears.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair in the first half, when there were seven ties and 11 lead changes. The Bears outscored the Bullets 8-3 to start the game, but Gettysburg responded with a 7-0 run to assume its first lead of the game following a 3-pointer from Christ with 11:52 left.

Ursinus went back in front less than a minute later, and it was an extremely tight contest over the middle portion of the half, with the lead changing hands nine times over a six-minute stretch.

A lay-up from sophomore forward
Mateus Maccieri (Reggio Emilia/Italy/John Carroll School [Md.]) put the Bullets up by one with 5:33 on the clock, but that's when the Bears used a 7-0 to open up the biggest lead of the half for either team at 30-24. However, sophomore guard
Alec Warren (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) answered with a 3-pointer for Gettysburg at the 3:12 mark, kicking off a 10-4 Bullet run to end the half. Junior forward
Cameron Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) buried a triple just before the horn to give the Bullets a 34-32 lead at the break.

Ursinus scored the first five points of the second half before Christ tied the game (37-37) with his fourth and final 3-pointer of the game. A trey from freshman guard
Nick Lord (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) pulled the Bullets to within two (42-40) with 16:53 remaining, but that's when the Bears embarked on their big run, taking a 60-43 lead with 11:13 left.

Ursinus led by as much as 19 (64-45) with 9:16 to go, but the Bullets would not go quietly. A 6-0 Gettysburg run, capped by consecutive buckets from Kiefer, cut the deficit to 11 with 2:00 showing. But that's as close as the Orange and Blue would get, and Ursinus salted its victory at the foul line, where it went 6-for-6 over the final 1:12.

Gettysburg returns to the court on Wednesday, when it hosts McDaniel College at 6 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match-up.
