SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's basketball team used a red-hot shooting performance in the first half to earn a 76-65 victory at Centennial Conference (CC)-leading Swarthmore College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bullets (6-13, 5-7 CC) outscored the Garnet 50-29 in the opening period, when they shot 63.3 percent from the field, including 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from beyond the arc. Gettysburg put together a 16-2 run midway through the first half to assume an 18-point lead and led by at least 12 until the game's final minute.

A balanced scoring effort did the trick for Gettysburg, which shot 51.0 from the field and 54.2 percent from 3-point territory. Four Bullets reached double figures in scoring, including senior guard
Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), who led the way with 17 points, shooting 3-for-6 from long range. Junior forward
Cameron Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) went 3-for-4 from distance en route to a season-high 13 points while senior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Freshman guard
Danny Duffey (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) netted 11 points for the Bullets while sophomore forward Matteus Maccieri (Reggio Emilia, Italy/John Carroll School [Md.]) dished out a career-high seven assists. Senior center
Mlynue Reeves (Washington, D.C./Church Farm School [Pa.]) added seven points and eight rebounds.

Cam Wiley scored a game-high 28 points for Swarthmore (15-4, 9-3 CC) while Zack Yonda had 13 points and nine rebounds. The Garnet entered the day in sole possession for first place in the Centennial Conference but is now tied with Johns Hopkins University atop the conference standings.

Gettysburg's win avenged its 75-58 loss to Swarthmore three Saturdays ago.

The Garnet led just once on the night – when Wiley hit a 3-pointer on the game's opening possession. The Bullets went ahead to stay with a 10-2 run, fueled in part by a pair of 3-pointers from Christ.

After Swarthmore drew to within one (12-11), the Bullets used a 10-1 spurt, which included a pair of treys from Kiefer, to push their lead into double figures at 22-12 with 13:22 left in the half. The Garnet cut the deficit to four 1:24 later, but that's when the Orange and Blue embarked on their decisive 16-2 run, capped by a pair of Stewart triples three minutes apart to give the visitors a commanding 39-21 lead with 5:11 left in the stanza.

Gettysburg led by as much as 22 in the opening half when Christ drained his third and final 3-pointer of the game, making it 47-25 with 2:11 on the clock. Christ led the Bullets with 11 first-half points while Duffey added 10.

The Bullets cooled off in the second half, shooting 31.6 percent from the field, but maintained at least a 16-point lead up until the final four minutes. A 7-0 Swarthmore spurt pulled the visitors to within 12 (67-55) with 4:01 to go, and a lay-up from Nate Shafer nudged the Garnet to within 71-60 with 1:19 left.

Christ, Stewart, and Duffey all split trips to the foul line over the next 32 seconds, and Duffey's free throw made it 74-62 with 47 ticks showing. Wiley drained a 3 with 24 seconds left, but it was too little too late as Maccieri set the final score with a pair of foul shots.

Gettysburg's 50 first-half points were the most by the Bullets in one half since a 55-point second period in a 91-78 victory over Washington College in the 2010 Centennial Conference semifinals. It was also the team's highest-scoring first half since a 54-point output in a 79-71 victory over York (Pa.) College on Nov. 25, 2003.
