LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior
Shannon Brady (Glen Head, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) scored with 2:16 left, handing the Gettysburg College women's soccer team a 2-1 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at a wet Tylus Field Wednesday afternoon.
Just over six minutes after subbing back into the game, Brady finished off a centering feed from senior
Maddie Heaney (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) for her sixth career goal and her third-game-winner.
In a match played through a soaking rain, the Bullets (6-4-2, 4-2 CC) outshot the Diplomats 15-6, but Gabby Panayotakis made eight saves for F&M (4-7-1, 1-5-1 CC).
Gettysburg controlled the opening half, when it racked up a 12-2 surplus in shots. After Panayotakis stopped the Bullets' first six shots on frame, senior
Krissy Bradley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) struck for her second goal of the season.
On the team's first goal, junior
Virginia Sanford (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate School) crossed a ball from the right side to the middle of the field, where junior
Samantha Esposito (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) flicked a quick header over to Bradley on the left side. Bradley drilled in a shot into the left side of the net for her fifth career goal.
It was a much more evenly-contest in the second half, when the Diplomats held a 4-3 edge in shots and pulled even off a corner kick in the 53rd minute. However, Brady and Heaney would have an answer. Heaney broke free down the left side and delivered a great ball to Brady, who sent home a left-footer into the bottom-right corner.
Freshman
Kerry Sammon (Pearl River, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Angels) notched a pair of saves to earn the victory in goal for Gettysburg.
The Bullets hit the road again on Saturday, when they visit Muhlenberg at 7 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match.
