Santini Strikes Again in OT Victory

Senior Has Now Scored Team’s Last 10 Goals

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Patrick Santini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) continued his tremendous season with yet another electric performance, scoring twice and netting a golden goal as the Gettysburg College men's soccer team toppled Eastern University 2-1 in overtime Wednesday evening at Clark Field.

Santini drilled in the game-winning goal with just 24 seconds left in overtime for the Bullets (8-2), ranked 23rd in the most recent D3soccer.com poll.

Gettysburg has now equaled its best start through 10 matches since the 2006 team also began 8-2.

Sophomore Precious Ozoh (Abuja, Nigeria/Holderness School [N.H.]) set up the goal with a corner kick from the left. It was deflected by the goalie, but Santini rifled in a shot from the right side of the box for his second career golden goal. He also scored an OT game-winner versus Ursinus on Sept. 19, 2015.

The reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, Santini was coming off a five-goal week that included a four-goal outburst in Gettysburg's victory over nationally-ranked Haverford this past Saturday. He entered the game ranked third in Division III in goals per game and has now piled up 15 on the season, tying him for fifth in school history. He has scored his team's last 10 goals dating back to Sept. 16, when he posted his first hat trick of the season in the team's 3-0 victory at Washington College.

Gettysburg registered a 17-7 shot advantage versus Eastern (7-3), which was ranked ninth in the region entering the night. The Bullets also gained a 13-3 surplus in corner kicks.

Santini put the Orange and Blue on the scoreboard in the 38th minute. During a scramble following a corner kick, the ball popped out to Santini, who smashed home his first goal of the night.

The Bullets would outshot the Eagles 10-5 in the opening half, when Easter goalie Quentin Keibler made five of his seven saves. Senior Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) registered both of his stops in the opening period for Eastern.

The Eagles pulled even in the 61st minute with a goal nearly identical to Gettysburg's first tally of the night. Sean Dougherty kicked in a loose ball following a corner kick to knot the score at 1-all.

The two sides managed just five total shots in a defensive second half. Dougherty's goal marked the lone shot on goal for the period.

Gettysburg attempted the only four shots in the extra session, including a Keibler deflection on a rip from Ozoh which set up the decisive corner kick.

The Bullets return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when they visit Muhlenberg at 7 p.m.
