Bullets Blank Muhlenberg, Win Fourth Straight

Gettysburg Maintains Second Place in CC Standings

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Ezekiel Omosanya (Lagos, Nigeria/Northfield Mount Hermon [Mass.]) scored in the 62nd minute and senior Patrick Santini (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) added an insurance goal in the 84th minute as the Gettysburg College men's soccer team rolled to its fourth straight victory, blanking host Muhlenberg 2-0 in a Centennial Conference (CC) tilt Saturday evening.

With the win, Gettysburg (9-2, 4-1 CC) remains in second place in the Centennial Conference standings. The Bullets, who are undefeated (5-0) on the road this season, now trail first-place Johns Hopkins by just one point.

Gettysburg, which has equaled its win total from last season, has now posted its best record through 11 games since the 2003 squad also started 9-2.

Senior Max Karen (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn) authored his third clean sheet of the season for the Orange and Blue, posting a season-high four saves. Jordan Schreer made six stops for the Mules (2-7-2, 0-4-1 CC).

The Bullets outshot the Muhlenberg 9-6 in the first half, but were unable to dent Schreer, who made five saves in the opening period. Karen collected three of his stops in the stanza.

Schreer made another stop early in the second half before a yellow card set up Gettysburg's first scoring opportunity. Freshman Sam Lerman (Wayzata, Minn./Field School) took the free kick from the left side of the field and lofted a ball into the right side of the box, where Omosanya, a defender, headed the ball into the net for what held up as his second career game-winning goal. The tally gave Lerman his team-leading fifth assist of the year.

Omosanya became the first Bullet other than Santini to score since Sept. 10. Santini had accounted for the team's last 10 goals, but he wouldn't be stopped from scoring in his fourth game in a row. He ran down a long pass from sophomore midfielder Jimmy Evangelos (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) and from the right wing, drilled a shot past Schreer to give the Bullets some breathing room.

Santini has now scored 16 goals this season – a mark that is tied for fourth in school history and is the most by a Bullet since Jeremy Shapiro '01 also scored 16 in 2000. He has scored in all nine of Gettysburg's victories this year.

Muhlenberg earned three corner kicks inside the final four minutes, but the Bullets prevented the Mules from taking a shot during the stretch. Both teams finished with six shots in the second half, when Muhlenberg held a 7-3 advantage in corners.

Gettysburg outshot the Mules 15-12 for the night.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Susquehanna at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
