Cameron Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) scored a season-high 17 points and the Gettysburg College men's basketball team used a strong defensive showing to pick up a 64-46 Centennial Conference (CC) victory at Muhlenberg College Saturday afternoon.

Stewart tied his career-high for 3-pointers, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc while the Bullets (8-15, 7-9 CC) held the Mules to 31.6 percent shooting.

Senior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and senior center
Mlynue Reeves (Washington, D.C./Church Farm School [Pa.]) each posted a double-double for the Bullets, who led 34-23 at halftime and pushed their advantage to as much as 22 in the second half.

Kiefer notched 13 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season while Reeves registered 12 points and 12 boards, good for his third double-dip of the year. Freshman guard
Danny Duffey (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland contributed eight assists for Gettysburg, which outrebounded Muhlenberg 38-30 and outscored the Mules 30-18 in the paint.

Jon Schreer led Muhlenberg (12-10, 7-9 CC) with 14 points while Jeanlee Baez contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Muhlenberg led just once during the game, when Schreer hit a 3-pointer 1:17 into the game to make it 3-2. But that's when the Bullets ran off a 12-2 spurt to open up a nine-point lead. The Mules answered with the next four points to make it 14-10, but Gettysburg came back with a 5-0 surge, capped by a Stewart triple, to restore its nine-point lead (19-10) with 13:53 left. The Bullets would lead by at least six for the remainder of the half.

A 3-pointer from sophomore guard
Alec Warren (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) bumped Gettysburg's surplus to 12 (29-17) with 6:02 remaining in the half. Muhlenberg used a 6-1 run to pull to within seven, but Gettysburg scored the last four points of the half, capped by a jumper from senior center
Tanner Kirkpatrick (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) at the buzzer to hand the Bullets their 11-point advantage at the break.

Kiefer and Stewart led all players with nine points apiece in the opening stanza.

The Mules trailed by 10 with 12:26 left, but that's when Gettysburg opened up some breathing room with a 9-2 run that made it a 50-33 game with 9:22 remaining. The Bullets extended their lead to 22 (59-37) with 5:44 to go before the defense took care of the rest, holding Muhlenberg to three field goals down the stretch.

Gettysburg plays its next-to-last game of the season on Wednesday, when it visits McDaniel College at 8 p.m. in Centennial Conference play.
