GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The red-hot Gettysburg College baseball team completed a 4-0 homestand with a doubleheader sweep of Mount Aloysius College in non-conference action Saturday at Kirchhoff Field.

The Bullets (10-6-1) won the opener 8-1, then captured a 5-2 victory in the nightcap to run their winning streak to nine – their longest since a 23-gamer in 2014.

Gettysburg continued to receive outstanding performances from its pitching staff. Junior Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) did not allow a hit until the fourth inning in the opener and allowed just three hits while striking out seven over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Senior Aaron Bezio (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) worked the final 3 1/3 innings and tied the school record with his sixth career save while also exceeding 100 career strikeouts.

In the second game, senior Eric Brown (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) allowed just one run over seven innings to earn the victory before sophomore Will Wortmann (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) threw the final two frames to collect the save.

Junior Logan Sneed (Newtown, Pa./Germantown Academy), freshman Tyler Mitchell (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), and freshman Joe Giovinco (Stirling, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) cracked four hits apiece to lead the Bullets at the plate. In addition, junior Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail), two days after tying a Division III record with two grand slams in one game, hit safely in both contests to stretch his hitting streak to 20, dating back to last season. The centerfielder also provided a highlight-reel diving catch in the second game, sprinting deep into the left-center gap before going airborne to haul in a line drive.

The Bullets pushed across single runs in each of the first two innings of the opener versus the Mounties (4-13), highlighted by a leadoff triple in the second by senior J.J. Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's). Gettysburg would then break it open with three unearned runs in the third, which included a double from senior Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser).

DeMartino (2-0), the reigning Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week, allowed just two baserunners over the first three innings on a walk and an error. The Mounties finally reached DeMartino with a leadoff single in the fourth, and he would issue a walk two batters later. But the lefty got out of it with a pair of pop-outs, then stranded two more runners on base in the fifth.

Mount Aloysius threatened again in the sixth, putting two runners aboard when Bezio was summoned out of the bullpen. After a walk loaded the bases, Bezio escaped with a strikeout. He was nearly perfect the rest of the way, allowing only a solo homer in the seventh before retiring the final seven batters. He finished with four strikeouts while moving into a tie with Luke Lawrence '16 and Brian Koch '08 on the school's all-time saves list.

The Bullets tacked on an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Mitchell led the Bullets at the plate in the opener, finishing 3-for-5.

Gettysburg assumed an early 2-0 lead in the second game, when Probst and Giovinco led off with back-to-back singles, then pulled off a double steal to score the game's first run. Giovinco would eventually score on an error.

Brown blanked the Mounties through the first three innings before the Bullets added singles runs from the fourth through the sixth to open up a 5-1 lead. Probst tripled and scored in the fifth before Mitchell drove home Gettysburg's final run with a triple of his own in the sixth.

The visitors pushed across a single run in the fifth and another in the seventh to make it a three-run game versus Brown (2-1), who scattered seven hits while striking out three. Wortmann did not allow a hit over his two innings of work, though the Mounties had the tying run at the plate in the ninth. After retiring the first two batters, Wortmann issued back-to-back walks before ending the game with a strikeout.

Probst, Giovinco, and Sneed led the Bullets at the plate in the nightcap with two hits apiece.

Gettysburg returns to action on Sunday, when it visits Penn State Berks in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
