STEVENSON, Md. – Stevenson jumped to a big early lead and the host Mustangs defeated Gettysburg 23-8 in a non-conference baseball tilt Wednesday afternoon.
 
Stevenson (4-5) led 9-0 through the first two innings and 10-3 at the end of the third. The Mustangs then put the game out of reach with 11 runs from the fourth through the sixth.
 
Senior Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and junior Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) combined to go 4-for-6 at the plate for the Bullets (0-2). Tom finished 2-for-3, and his first-inning single marked his 100th career hit. Probst also went 2-for-3, doubling twice and scoring twice. In addition, senior Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) blasted Gettysburg's first home run of the year with a three-run shot in the fifth.
 
Senior Rich Power (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) started on the mound for the Bullets and was charged with the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on three hits and three walks over an inning-plus of work. Sophomore Will Wortmann (Bedford, Pa./Fox Lane) pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief while freshman John Braun (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College) worked the final 4 2/3 innings, striking out six in his collegiate debut.
 
Billy Small highlighted Stevenson's 19-hit attack with a second-inning grand slam that gave the Mustangs their early nine-run advantage.
 
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday, when it visits Hood at 3 p.m. in another non-league affair.
