Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. – Gettysburg pounded out a season-high 14 hits, but the Bullets dropped a 9-4 decision to Hood College in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at Frederick Community College.

Five different Bullets roped multiple hits, including senior J.J. Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's), who went 3-for-4 with a double. Senior Connor Tom (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and junior Chuck Probst (North Bend, Pa./Bucktail) each finished 3-for-5 while senior Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and junior Josh Cubell (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) smacked two hits apiece.

Senior Aaron Bezio (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) started on the mound for Gettysburg (0-3) and suffered the loss, yielding six runs (four earned) on five hits over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one. Classmate Chase Stopyra (Ocean, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) pitched 2 2/3 innings and surrendered three runs while sophomore Sam Dobbins (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) tossed a scoreless inning.

Gettysburg jumped to an early 2-0 lead when Probst and Tom led off the game with back-to-back singles and scored on sacrifice flies from Anderson and sophomore Brendan Wright (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley).

The Blazers (2-4) tied it up on a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, then went ahead for good with another two-spot in the third. Gettysburg pulled to within a run on an RBI-single from Cubell in the fourth, but Hood opened up some breathing room with a three-run fifth, making it 7-3. The Blazers launched another two-run homer in the inning.

Gettysburg made it a three-run game in the sixth when Tom led off with a double before eventually scoring. However, Hood protected its lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh.

The Bullets return to action on Sunday, when they kick off their 10-game, seven-day Spring Break trip to Florida with a doubleheader versus Bethany College starting at 11 a.m.
