COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.  – It took a couple extra innings, but the Gettysburg College softball team wrapped up career win No. 300 for Head Coach Annette Hunt-Shepherd in a Centennial Conference split at Ursinus College on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (20-9-1, 7-4-1 CC) rallied to tie the opener before picking up three runs in the top of the ninth for a 5-2 win. The Bullets fell short in the nightcap with Ursinus (12-16, 4-6 CC) 4-2.
 
The Bears challenged the visitors early by putting runners in scoring position in each of the first four innings. Gettysburg escaped unscathed through the first three frames, including a force out at home in the second.
 
Ursinus cracked the scoring column in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Rachel Hyman plated the first with a double and Callie Crouse added a double of her own to bring in the second run.
 
After allowing seven hits in the first four innings, junior Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) settled into a groove and allowed only one more hit over the next four frames.
 
Gettysburg found some offense in the top of the sixth with two outs. Pinch-hitter Rachel Julie (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff) drew a walk and senior Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) followed with a single. Both runners came home on a pinch-hit double by freshman Mattea Ghaffary (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark).
 
After a scoreless eighth, the Bullets tacked on three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Senior Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) drove in the go-ahead run with a double. Sophomore Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) followed with a sacrifice fly and Sarahrose Jonik (Glenmoore, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) plated the final run with a double to left-center.
 
Reilly improved to 9-5 on the year. She allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out four. Jonik and Taylor each contributed two hits for Gettysburg.
 
The victory was Shepherd's 300th in an 11-year coaching career which includes stints at Ohio Northern University (2004-10) and Pittsburg State University (2011). It also gave her at least 20 wins in each of her four seasons with the Bullets. She is 96-52-1 as the head coach at Gettysburg.
 
The Bullets stranded 11 runners in the second game, including leaving the bases packed in the first inning. Gettysburg picked up the game's first run as Misurell led off the second frame with a triple and scored on a single by freshman Liz Cowell (Verona, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic).
 
Ursinus scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning, including two on a single by Samantha Garritano. Ghaffary took advantage of another pinch-hit appearance with a run-scoring single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Bears added an insurance run on a bases-loaded walk by Garritano in the sixth to close the scoring.
 
Sophomore Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) fell to 11-3 with the loss. She gave up four runs on eight hits and struck out five. Freshman Taylor Doi (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) and Jonik each tallied two hits.
 
Gettysburg hosts Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, April 18, at 3 p.m.
