SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore

Gettysburg (25-12-1) made quick work of Susquehanna (25-13) in the opening game at Sassafras Field. A two-run single by sophomore
Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) opened the scoring in the first inning and senior
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) followed with a two-run homer in the second to lift the visitors in front 4-0.
That was more than enough for Clauser, who didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and struck out six batters in five innings. It was her fourth shutout of the season.
The Bullets tacked on two more runs in the fourth on hits by Abell and sophomore
Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington). After a double by senior
Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) brought home another run in the fifth, freshman
Liz Cowell (Verona, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic) polished off the scoring with a two-run single.
Abell finished 2-for-3 with a run and three RBI. Freshman
Taylor Doi (Foster, Calif./San Mateo) went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs, while Cowell was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Crusaders touched up Clauser for five runs in the first two innings of the nightcap, including a three-run home run by Jackie Gore in the first inning.
The Bullets closed the gap with five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Misurell tallied a pair of RBI singles in the two innings to pull Gettysburg to 6-5.
Susquehanna tacked on two more runs in its final two at bats. Gettysburg placed its first two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but a double play ended the threat.
After picking up a hit and a walk in the opening game, freshman
Mattea Ghaffary (Moorpark, Calif./Moorpark) went 2-for-2 with two walks in game two. Taylor and Misurell each added a pair of base hits. Abell picked up a hit to move her within seven of Gettysburg's program record of 213 held by
Steph Zengel '16. She also started her 157th career game, breaking the program's all-time record.
Gettysburg competes in the Centennial Conference Championship May 5-7 at McDaniel College. The Bullets open the playoffs against Washington College Friday at 4:30 p.m.
