Bullets Rally Past Ursinus in OT

Miesemer Strikes for Game-Winning PK

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Lauren Miesemer (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 99th minute and the Gettysburg College women's soccer team rallied from an early two-goal deficit to beat Ursinus 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon at a sweltering Clark Field.

The Bullets (4-2-1, 2-1 CC) found themselves down 2-0 less than eight minutes into the contest after Mackenzie Groff scored a pair of goals for the Bears (0-7-1, 0-3 CC). However, Gettysburg cut the lead in half in the 41st minute when freshman Meredith Moore (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) scored her first collegiate goal. She took a cross from senior Maddie Heaney (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) and kicked it off one bounce and into the net from the middle of the box.

Gettysburg outshot Ursinus 8-2 in the opening half but that's when Sabrina Doherty made three of her five save for the Bears.

The Bullets pulled even when sophomore Isabel Klatt (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) struck in the 59th minute, finishing off a cross from Miesemer with a shot that deflected off Doherty's fingertips and into the upper right corner of the net.

Freshman goalie Kerry Sammon (Pearl River, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Angels) made both of her saves for Gettysburg with around 10 minutes left in regulation, sending the Bullets to overtime for the third time this season.

Neither side had managed a shot before Heaney found herself in a 1-on-1 with the goalie with less than two minutes left in the extra session. However, she was tackled by a defender who would pick up a red card, and Miesemer was chosen to take the penalty kick. She went on to convert her first collegiate PK and second career game-winning goal.

Gettysburg outshot Ursinus 18-6 for the match and earned its first overtime victory since a 2-1 double-OT triumph over Johns Hopkins on Oct. 31, 2015.

The Bullets return home on Wednesday, when they host Frostburg State at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
