Early Goals Power Bullets at Stevenson

Gettysburg Earns First Win of 2017

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Hannah Hallos (Matawan, N.J./Old Bridge) and sophomore Isabel Klatt (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored in the game's opening five minutes and the Gettysburg College women's soccer team earned its victory of the season, downing host Stevenson University 2-1 in a non-conference tilt Wednesday evening.

The Mustangs outshot the Bullets 17-9, but freshman goalie Kerry Sammon (Pearl River, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Angels) made seven saves to earn her first career win.

In a match played through a steady rain, Gettysburg (1-1) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. In the third minute, a Bullet corner kick was deflected by the defense to the top of the box. That's where Hallos came up with the ball and booted in her first collegiate goal for the team's first tally of the season.

The Bullets doubled their lead two and a half minutes later. Sophomore Brooke Priddy (Darnestown, Md./Bullis School) played a long ball to Klatt, who delivered a low shot into the far left post. Priddy earned her first career assist on the play while Klatt notched her second career goal, which turned into the game-winner.

The Mustangs (2-1) held a 7-6 edge in shots for the opening half, when Sammon made three stops.

Stevenson turned up its offensive pressure in the second period, outshooting the Bullets 10-3. The hosts broke through in the 53rd minute, when Allison Arters scored on a give-and-go from Marissa Inglisa to cut the lead in half.

Three minutes later, Sammon turned in a spectacular play to preserve the lead for the Bullets, leaping high for a one-handed deflection off the crossbar on a shot that appeared to be headed for the net. The first year would go on to reject three more shots over the next seven minutes, and Stevenson's last two shots were off target.

Tiffany McKee finished with four saves for the Mustangs.

Gettysburg returns to non-conference action on Saturday, when it visits Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m.
