SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to 40th-ranked Swarthmore College in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams Saturday.
Playing inside the Mullan Center because of the recent winter storm, Swarthmore (2-6, 1-0 CC) dropped only two games in three doubles matches against Gettysburg (1-6, 0-1 CC). Seniors
Erica Paul (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and
Erin Sweeney (Chemlsford, Mass./Chemlsford) fell to Rachel Bronkema and Arya Jemal 8-2 at the third flight.
Swarthmore, which came into the match ranked eighth in the region, swept the top four singles matches in straight-sets and won the remaining two contests in pro-sets. Freshman
Amanda Vinges (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) suffered her first loss of the season at the hands of Anna Scheibmeir 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
Gettysburg will face another tough test next time out with a road trip to No. 15 Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
