Bullets Improve to 11-0 with First Centennial Victory

Gettysburg beats Washington 3-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team dominated the fourth set on the way to running its season record to 11-0 with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13) win over Washington College in its Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon inside Bream Gym.

Gettysburg (11-0, 1-0 CC) rolled to a pair of wins in the opening two sets against Washington (4-7, 0-1 CC), winning the first 25-16 and the second 25-22. The Bullets went on a 12-2 run to close the opening contest, thanks in part to seven hitting errors by the Shorewomen.

Washington closed the gap by taking the third set 25-18. Following a 4-4 tie, the visitors erupted for an 8-2 run and maintained a minimum of a three-point lead for the remainder of the set.

The Orange and Blue rebounded by scoring the first five points of the fourth set and running away from the Shorewomen. The lead hit double-figures at 15-5 on a kill by junior Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan). Gettysburg hit .314 on the attack and pounded down 16 kills in the final set.

Junior Francesca Garison (Metuchen, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) and Higgins each tallied 13 kills. Garison added 10 digs for her third consecutive double-double and fourth overall this season. Freshman Jordyn Horowitz (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) added nine kills and nine digs, while junior Shannon Fletcher (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) knocked down 7-of-8 attack attempts.

Junior Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) defended the back row with 21 digs. Sophomore Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) added a dozen digs. Freshman Sarah Ellis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) recorded 29 assists and seven digs.
