McDaniel Upends Gettysburg in Five Sets

Green Terror hand Bullets first loss of the season

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the second consecutive season McDaniel College put an end to Gettysburg College's perfect start as the Green Terror rallied from an opening-set loss to upend the Bullets in five sets Wednesday evening inside Bream Gym.

Despite playing without two of its best defensive back row players for much of the match, Gettysburg (11-1, 1-1 CC) nearly rallied back from a 2-1 hole, but McDaniel (10-1, 2-0 CC) scored eight of the final 10 points of the night to close out the victory. The Bullets won the first (25-17) and fourth sets (25-14), while the Green Terror won the second (25-23), third (25-19), and fifth (15-9).

Sophomore Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) led Gettysburg with a season-high 18 kills and she tallied 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Francesca Garison (Metuchen, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) logged her third consecutive double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs, while classmate Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied 13 kills. Garison also served up three aces.

Freshman setter Sarah Ellis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) paced the offense with 29 assists and she put up seven digs. Thrust into the role of libero in the second set, sophomore Maddie Buerle (New Providence, N.J./Union Catholic) tallied a career high with 19 digs.

Marlowe Embry posted 18 kills and 15 digs for McDaniel. Anna Jezerski added 14 kills, while Gayle Edelstein and Lauren Wells combined for 46 assists. Taylor Bauman paced the Green Terror defense with 29 digs.
