Unbeaten Bullets Continue Streaking at Lycoming

Gettysburg downs Cortland, Dickinson to move to 9-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Allie Stranick (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) and junior Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) were both named to the All-Tournament Team after helping Gettysburg College complete another perfect weekend at the Lycoming College Tournament on Saturday.

Gettysburg (9-0), which won all four matches at its own tournament last weekend, began the day with a 3-0 win over SUNY Cortland (3-4). After a close 25-22 decision in the opening set, the Bullets dominated the final two sets with identical 25-12 wins. To cap the day, the Orange and Blue took down Centennial Conference rival Dickinson College (4-5) 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15) in a non-conference showdown.

Gettysburg trailed only once in its sweep of Cortland. The Red Dragons hurt their own cause with 24 hitting errors, eight service errors, and 12 reception errors.

Stranick put down eight kills and put up 11 digs to pace the Bullets. Junior Francesca Garison (Metuchen, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) posted six kills and five aces. Sophomore Faith Adams (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) served up four aces.

Gettysburg's back-row defense shined in the finale with Dickinson as four players posted double-figure digs, highlighted by Sequeira's career-high 38. The junior's dig total was the third-highest mark by a Bullet and the most since Rebecca Rubenstein '12 recorded 39 against Gallaudet University in 2011.

Stranick managed her second double-double of the tournament with 10 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Sarah Ellis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) totaled 10 digs while putting up 22 assists.

Junior Kasey Higgins (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led the offense with 11 kills and Garison finished with 10 kills, three aces, and seven digs.

Gettysburg is 9-0 for the second consecutive season. The Bullets won their first 12 matches on the way to a 20-win season in 2017.

Gettysburg visits Frostburg State University on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
