Bullets upended by Division I Retrievers 92-50

BALTIMORE, Md.
  – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team opened its campaign with an exhibition matchup at Division I UMBC inside the Event Center Tuesday evening, where the hosts took the 92-50 victory.
 
The setback does not count against Gettysburg's regular-season record as a Division III institution, but UMBC received credit for its first win of the campaign.

How It Happened…
  • First Quarter:  The Bullets kept things close in the first quarter as they came within six (15-9) off a second chance three-pointer by sophomore Carly Rice (Pennington, N.J./The Pennington School) with 3:58 on the clock. The hosts held Gettysburg to two points the rest of the quarter as the Retrievers spurted nine points.  
  • Second Quarter: The Retrievers pulled away with a 13-0 run at the end of the second quarter to hold the steady lead heading into the half.
  • Third Quarter: Gehrin and Brown netted a combine total of 12 points, but UMBC mounted a furious lead heading into the final quarter.
  • Fourth Quarter: Matto scored all 10 of her points in the final quarter, including two three-pointers, but UMBC continued its offensive dominance as they shot 60 percent from the field in the second half.
By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg finished 18-of-55 (32.7 percent) from the floor, while UMBC was 35-of-61 (57.4 percent).
  • UMBC held a 49-23 advantage in rebounds and forced 19 turnovers.
  • The Bullets went 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line, while the Retrievers shot 16-of-30 (53.3 percent).
