How It Happened…
- The Tornadoes went three up, three down in the top of the first inning, while the Bullets wasted no time collecting its first two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jonik led off with a homer and Gettysburg grabbed its second and final run off a RBI double by Baker to make it 2-0.
- Gettysburg did an outstanding job defensively, especially in Ferraiolo's second start from the circle. The freshman notched at least two strikeouts in four innings and finished the game with 11 total.
- The Tornadoes threatened for a late comeback as they cut the deficit down to one in the top of the sixth. Two quick outs did not phase Brevard as Emily White tripled to right field at the third at bat and Kat Carroll followed up with a double to send White across the plate. With a runner on second and third, Ferraiolo struck out her ninth batter of the game to close the top of the sixth inning.
- Brevard's comeback was spoiled by Gettysburg's defense as Ferraiolo struke out two and the infield stopped Serena Rodge from making it to first base.
- In the nightcap, the Bullets busted out the bats, finishing with 10 runs on 15 hits.
- Julie scored the first run off a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers responded by tallying three runs to make it 3-1 early on.
- Freshman Olivia Moser (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) started the second with a walk, and then senior Liz Cowell (Verona, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic) grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Moser to advance to second base. A single by freshman Allie Cluster (Pasadena, Md./Mount De Sales Academy) and a throwing error by the left fielder pushed Cluster to second and Moser to third. Jonik came to the plate and pounded a two RBI double to tie the game at 3-3.
- The Bullets took hold of the lead in the next inning and never trailed or tied again as Cowell singled to center field to allow Baker to score the run.
- The Orange and Blue did not hold back in the fourth as they blasted five runs on four hits, which was highlighted by Baker smashing a three-run dinger to right field.
- The Tigers compiled their final run in the bottom of the fourth from a RBI double by Ashley Pfade.
- A RBI single by Julie concluded the scoring for the Bullets in the fifth and the defense fended off any chances for the Tigers, as Iowa Wesleyan never made it past second base the rest of the game.
By the Numbers
- The Bullets held Brevard to one run on six hits and did not produce an error.
- Gettysburg has accumulated at least 10 hits in three of the first four games.
- In four games, Baker has registered one homer in three of the four and has gone 10-for-14 at the plate. The junior catcher needs 14 more hits to join the 100 hit club.
