How it Happened
First Half: The Fords kept the Bullets defense busy in the first five minutes of action by forcing five corner kicks and taking two shots, with Cunningham stopping one. One of Gettysburg's best opportunities for a tally came 15 minutes into the contest. A Haverford defender kicked the ball back to goalkeeper Hannah Friedrich. She goes to clear the ball and it goes right to freshman
Jalia Musah (Garu Tempane, Ghana/Millbrook School [N.Y.]), she recovered the ball and shoots, but Friedrich made the save. Cunningham made another save for the Bullets at the 16-minute marker to keep it at a 0-0 deadlock. Four minutes later, Haverford broke through when Celia Page drilled a shot into the upper left corner to make it 1-0. The two teams continued to battle, but the Fords held the 1-0 lead at halftime.
Second Half: The contest continued to be hard-fought and physical with both teams going back-and-forth on possessions in the second half. Haverford accrued a corner kick and two shots, with Cunningham and the team making two saves in the first five minutes. Gettysburg responded with a corner kick and three shots of its own during the next five minutes. The Orange and Blue continued to fight for the equalizer with
Molly O'Shea (Reading, Pa./Wilson),
Claudia Mischler (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional), and
Kelly Gaudian (Arlington, Va./ Washington-Lee) each taking a shot on goal in 14 minutes, but Hannah Friedrich turned aside all three. The Bullets fell 1-0 against the Fords on Senior Day in front of a large home crowd. With the loss, Gettysburg sits behind Johns Hopkins University, McDaniel College, Franklin & Marshall College, and Swarthmore College in the CC standings.
