Match Summary
  • First Set: Gettysburg held the upper-hand in the early moments of the opening contest, scoring the first four points and jumping in front 13-9 on back-to-back spikes by Kuba-McCoy. Mary Washington steadily chipped away at the deficit and pulled in front 21-18 after a quick 5-0 spurt. An ace by Ulrich pulled the Bullets within a point at 22-21, but the hosts rattled off the final three points to secure the victory.
  • Second Set: Mary Washington took control midway through the second set. Following an 8-8 tie, the Eagles poured in 12 of the next 15 points to jump in front 20-11. The Bullets rallied down the stretch before succumbing 25-18.
  • Third Set: Gettysburg rode its late rally from the previous contest to a victory in the third set. The Bullets jumped in front early and held an 11-7 lead following a kill by Horowitz. Mary Washington refused to go down easy, rallying to tie the match at 19-19 and 20-20. A kill by Kuba-McCoy and back-to-back hitting errors on the Eagles padded the lead. After a kill by Mary Washington, Kuba-McCoy put the set to bed with a pair of spikes to the hardwood.
  • Fourth Set: The hosts tallied the first three points before Gettysburg went on a 5-1 run capped by an ace by Nasir. The Bullets remained in front for most of the next several minutes and took an 11-9 lead on a kill by freshman Cat Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham). Mary Washington seized the advantage with a 5-1 spurt of its own, jumping to a 14-12 lead on a big block on the right side. An ace by Gettysburg cut the margin to 18-17, but three-straight points by the Eagles quelled the comeback hopes.
