How it Happened
First Half: It was a slow start offensively for the Bullets as Muskus took the lone shot six minutes into the opening half. Swarthmore challenged Cunningham often in the opening half, as the team attempted seven shots with four on goal. Cunningham turned aside all four, including a diving save on Abby Chang's shot with six minutes remaining. Gettysburg and Swarthmore headed into the half with a 0-0 deadlock.
Second Half: The roles reversed in the second half as the Bullets put the offensive pressure on the Garnet, outshooting 8-3. Goals nearly went into the back of the net for the Orange and Blue throughout the half as the first three attempts went wide, with the fourth by Muskus being stopped by Lillian Keller at the 57:30 marker. Ten minutes later, freshman
Jalia Musah (Garu Tempane, Ghana Millbrook School [N.Y.]) had a great look at the net, but Keller made the save once again. Cunningham was rock solid for the Bullets, especially in the final 12 minutes, as she stopped back-to-back attempts by the Garnet to send the teams into overtime.
Overtime: Gettysburg posted three and four shots, respectively, at the cage in each overtime period. The Bullets did not back down and put Keller to work in the extra periods. Keller gobbled up back-to-back shots by junior
Molly O'Shea (Reading, Pa./Wilson) in the 92nd and 95th minute and logged in three more saves,, with the final stop in the 109th minute by Muskus. The Gettysburg defense limited Swarthmore to just two shots, one in each overtime, to battle to a 0-0 tie.
