Franklin & Marshall swims past Gettysburg men

THE SKINNY STORY
The Gettysburg men's swim team won six of fourteen events in the loss to Franklin & Marshall, with more than one swimmer winning multiple events.
 
THE LEADERS
Nick Cox (Purcellville, Va./Ponte Verda) picked up two first place finishes, in the 50 backstroke (24.34) and in the 100 backstroke (52.57). The latter marked a season-best time.
Luke McKenna (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) also earned gold in two races, winning the 500 freestyle (4:57.32) and the 1000 freestyle (10:05.32). McKenna's 1000 performance came in eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

FOR THE FOES
• Matthew Hopkins racked up three firsts and a third, in the 400 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 100 backstroke.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Max McAlister (Powell, Ohio, Olentangy) took home gold in the 100 butterfly, notching a season-best 52.51.
Charlie Cross (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) touched first in the 400 IM, with a time of 4:20.12. The second-place finisher from Franklin & Marshall was more than three seconds slower.
 
THE INSIDE STORY
• Cox, Declan Sheeran (McLean, Va./McLean), McAlister, and Cross led Gettysburg's 400 medley relay A-Team to a second-place finish, with a time of 3:32.25. They finished less than a second behind Franklin & Marshall's A-Team.
Cort Hobelmann (Nashville, Tenn./Owensboro Catholic) finished second in the 100 backstroke, clocking in about three seconds behind teammate Cox.
McAlister notched a second-place finish in the 50 butterfly, with a time of 24.01. His swim was .31 slower than the first-place finisher.  
The Gettysburg 200 freestyle relay A-Team, of Hobelmann, Hunter Sundlun (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher School), Zach Evans (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.), and Lorenzo Zullo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) placed third, just .11 seconds behind the Franklin & Marshall C-Team.
