THE REST OF THE STORY
• A few big runs helped Johns Hopkins stay ahead in the first set, as they first got out to an 8-3 lead over Gettysburg. The Bullets were able to take the lead off a 7-4 run, giving them a 12-10 edge. Johns Hopkins quickly regained the lead, snagging five consecutive points to make it 15-12 in their favor. The Blue Jays widened the gap, getting to 22-18 late in the set. Not to be counted out, the Bullets went 5-1 to tie the score at 23-all. A point for each team made it 24-all, but two Blue Jays kills won them the first set.
• The second set started with each team going on a five-point run to reach an early 5-all tie. From there, the Blue Jays took off, getting out to 20-13 over the Bullets. Gettysburg made a strong push, going 7-1 with the Blue Jays to bring the score within one at 20-21, but Johns Hopkins won the final four points to give them the second set win.
•  In the third set, it was Gettysburg who streaked out to a lead, getting out to 17-11 over the Blue Jays. Johns Hopkins kept at it, and brought the score to 22-16 before going on a five-point run to bring the score within one at 22-21. The Blue Jays grabbed one more point off a kill, but it was the Bullets who notched two kills and capitalized on a Johns Hopkins service error to win the third set and put themselves on the board.
• Both teams battled hard in the fourth set, which saw 12 ties and seven lead changes. Johns Hopkins was able to make their lead as big as 19-14, before the Bullets grabbed five points in a row to tie it up at 19-all. The teams went point-for-point for a bit, tying four more times at 20, 21, 22, and 23-all. The Bullets grabbed two more points off two Blue Jays errors, before Kylie Ulrich (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) killed the ball to send the teams to the fifth and final set.
• In the final set, Johns Hopkins strode out to a 7-3 lead, before the Bullets brought it within one at 6-7. Johns Hopkins widened their lead to six points at 12-6, but the Bullets went on a 6-2 run to make the score 12-14 with Johns Hopkins reaching game point. A final kill by the Blue Jays won them the hard-fought match.
