THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the first set, Dickinson got out to a lead as big as 14-9, propelled by several Bullets errors. Gettysburg picked it up, going 9-3 with the Red Devils to change the set's momentum in their favor, 18-17. Two kills by Amelia Kim gave the Red Devils a one-point lead, before the Bullets nabbed five straight points to overtake the Devils again, 23-19. A Bullets service error gave Dickinson one more point on the set, before Olivia Biggs (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and Kuba-McCoy registered a kill each to win the first set for the Bullets.
• In the second set, the teams traded points back and forth, tying six times. After the final tie at 9-all, Gettysburg went on a monster 8-0 run to put them firmly in the lead at 17-9. It was a lead they wouldn't relinquish, widening it to as many as 11 points at 22-11. The Bullets went 2-3 with the Red Devils to put them at set point, 24-14, but Dickinson stayed in it for two more points to make it 24-16. Kuba-McCoy again registered the set-winning point on a kill to give the Bullets the 2-0 match lead.
•  In the final set, Gettysburg and Dickinson tied 13 times, while the lead changed hands four times. Dickinson started out with a 5-3 lead, before Gettysburg rallied off three points to move the needle in their favor, 6-5. Dickinson followed with their own three point streak to put them up, 8-6. From there, the teams went almost point-for-point to bring a 17-all tie. The Bullets notched a Kuba-McCoy kill and block by Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) and Radolovic to put them back in the lead 19-17, and went 5-1 with Dickinson to extend it to 24-18. With the Bullets sitting at match point, three straight attack errors gave the Red Devils their final points in the match. Gettysburg finally closed it out on a huge kill from Radolovic to send them to semifinals.
