Baseball Drops Florida Finale

Western Connecticut State tops Gettysburg 9-1

Box Score VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Gettysburg College baseball team (3-6) dropped a 9-1 decision to Western Connecticut State University (1-0) in the final game of its Florida trip on Saturday. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.

Breakdown
  • Miller decked a lead-off triple to open the game. Following a walk to senior Matt Muir (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames), Kirby brought home Miller with a single for the game's first run.
  • Western Connecticut State did most of its damage with two outs in the second inning. WestConn produced six consecutive hits, including a three-run home run by Gregory to jump ahead 7-1 on the scoreboard.
  • Gregory struck again in the bottom of the fourth, recording his fourth RBI of the game with a single to push the lead to 9-1.
  • Lizell entered the game on the mound for Gettysburg entering the bottom of the fifth. The first-year held WestConn off the base paths by retiring all six batters he faced, including striking out two.
 
Where the Series Stands
Western Connecticut took a 3-2 lead in a series that started in 2018.
 
Next Up
Gettysburg is scheduled to return to action on its home field against Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m.
