ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College (7-2) held Gettysburg College (7-3) to a total of six hits on the way to handing the Bullets back-to-back losses for the first time this spring. The Dutchmen won the opening game 9-0 and took game two by a 4-1 score on Friday.
Playing its first game in a week, Gettysburg suffered its first shutout loss in the opening game. The Bullets were prevented from putting a runner in scoring position through the first four innings and fell behind 5-0 after Lebanon Valley opened its scoring in the third inning. The Dutchmen tallied six base hits in the inning, including a two-run double by Julia Craig.
Gettysburg's best opportunity to bring across a run came in its final at bat. Each of the first three batters reached base with two singles and a walk. Jordan Walte escaped the jam with a strikeout, force out at home, and a grounder to shortstop.
Lebanon Valley ended the game with four runs in the fifth inning, including a walk-off two-run double by Craig, who finished the game 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.
Sophomore
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) went 2-for-3 for the Bullets.
Game two was a pitcher's duel between Lebanon Valley's Erin Sinatra and Gettysburg freshman
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley). Forry allowed just one hit through the first four innings and set down the side in the first and third innings. Sinatra also allowed just one hit through four innings, but walks and errors kept putting Bullets on base. The visitors put runners in scoring position in four consecutive innings, but didn't convert until the fifth.
Sophomore
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) led off the inning with a walk and advanced around the bases on a single by Smith and a sacrifice bunt. After a fly out to center field, the Lebanon Valley catcher muffed the throw home and Komst waltzed in for the game's first run.
Alicia Gotts answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. Lebanon Valley added two more runs in the sixth to set the final score.
Forry allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out five over six innings. Smith reached base twice on a hit and a walk.
Sinatra allowed one unearned run on two hits, walked six, and struck out nine in the win.
