THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg was able to keep Catholic at bay, only giving a 25-21 second set for a 3-1 win in the final match of the first day of Battlefield Classic.
THE LEADERS
•
Zanze Kuba-McCoy (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) had a team-high 17 kills and hit .382 to lead the Bullets.

Kylie Ulrich (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster) added 15 kills.
•
Chelsea O'Leary (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) provided 17 digs.
FOR THE FOES
• Halie Murphy led the Cardinals with 13 kills.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg led throughout the first set, mounting a 15-5 lead over Catholic. The Cardinals gained some momentum, outscoring the Bullets 13-8 to close to within 23-18. A ball handling error by Catholic put the Bullets at set point, and a block from
Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) put a tally in their column.
• The Cardinals put the Bullets to work in the second set, which saw Catholic quickly assume an early lead and hold off a Gettysburg charge the rest of the set. Halie Murphy led the Cardinals attack with six kills. The Bullets attempted to mount a comeback by going on a 13-10 run, but it wasn't quite enough. A kill by Brittany Connaster, assisted by Sydney Sheppard, sealed up the second set for the Cardinals and tied the match at 1-all.
• The Bullets got out to an early lead in the third set, pulling away after a block by
Olivia Biggs (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and
Izzy Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington). Gettysburg outscored the Cardinals by three in a 10-7 run to open up a 14-9 lead when the Cardinals started to strike. They pulled within 22-20 but a back-to-back kills from
Zanze Kuba-McCoy closed out the set.
• The final set once again saw Gettysburg leading early, going up 10-6 over the Cardinals. A monster 12-3 run opened up a commanding lead, 22-9, Catholic gained some momentum, scoring seven of the next 10 points but a final kill from Biggs won the match.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg had the advantage in digs 50-43 and blocks, 12-4.

Kendall Erpenbeck (San Jose, Calif./Prospect) and
Sophie Nasir (Covina, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory) contributed 21 and 20 assists, respectively.
