THE REST OF THE STORY
• After Nick Romeo and Sam Corrao each hit a 3-pointer to stake Washington to a 6-0 lead in the game's first 2:01,
Antonello Baggi (Cremona, Italy/West Deptford [N.J.]) threw one down on the break to get Gettysburg on the board. Kedrick Frink responded with a layup but a
Carl Schaller 3-pointer cut the deficit in half with 16:08 to play. Two
Ryan McKeon (Landenberg, Pa./Sanford [Del.]) layups helped close the margin to 13-12 before Schaller and Frink traded layups. A
Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) pull-up in the lane gave the hosts a 16-15 edge with 11:32 on the clock, sparking a run of 12 straight Gettysburg points. Four different Bullets hit baskets in the run. A Ryan Lang 3-pointer with 6:06 remaining momentarily halted the run but it was the only made field goal for Washington in the game-changing 25-3 stretch. The Shoremen scored six straight to made it a 39-24 game but Schaller capped his 15-point first half with a triple in the final 35 seconds to make it an 18-point lead at the break.
• A Stafford layup in the first minute of the second half pushed the advantage to 20 and it would not be any closer the rest of the way. A
Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) three-point play with 14:59 on the clock made it a 30-point game for the first time at 59-29. The lead grew to as large as 37 on a Williams steal-and-layup with 110:20 showing, making it a 75-38 game.
Josh Russell (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) scored his first points of the season, hitting the front end of a 1-and-1 with 3:11 remaining and draining a triple with 39 ticks on the clock.
