THE LEADERS

Kylie Ulrich (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) led the attack with 14 kills. She also added two blocks.
•
Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/The Beaumont School) was the other Bullet in double-digit kills, putting up 10 kills to go with seven digs.
•
Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) each got their hands on five blocks.
FOR THE FOES
• Sydney Levins was one of three Diplomats with nine kills, and she added five digs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Set one yielded ties up to 4-all, after which Franklin & Marshall went on a 10-3 run to double up on the Bullets, 10-3. Four different Diplomats had a kill in the run. However, Gettysburg responded with a 5-0 run spurred by Franklin & Marshall attack errors. The score was even again at 15, 17, and 18-all before Gettysburg capitalized on three straight Diplomat mistakes to open up a 20-18 lead. The teams traded kills before a Franklin & Marshall service error ended set one, 25-21 in favor of Gettysburg.
• Franklin & Marshall responded to their set one loss by opening a 7-3 lead over Gettysburg at the beginning of set two. Gettysburg attempted to keep the score close, but Franklin & Marshall used their attack to maintain their lead between two and four points. Two kills in a row by
Kylie Ulrich and
Olivia Biggs (Winchester, Va./James Wood) closed the gap to 14-13, but Lauren Arnold notched two key kills to bring Franklin and Marshall's back out to three, 20-17. Two Radolovic spikes again brought the gap down to two, and a ball handling error and Ulrich and Biggs block made it a tie set, 21-all. However, from there Franklin & Marshall closed out the set on a 4-2 run, with Gianna Mangiamele killing two balls and Gettysburg committing several errors to give the Diplomats the 25-23 second set win and evening the match score, 1-all.
• In set three, it was again Franklin & Marshall with the early advantage, doubling up on Gettysburg 8-4 before stretching their lead to 13-8. Holtz, Radolovic, and Ulrich each notched a kill within the run to keep the Bullets in it. Biggs, Huegel, and Holtz registered kills to close within 14-12, and a block by Holtz and Huegel made it a one-point set. The teams traded points as they tied at 14, 16, 17, and 18-all, before a 5-2 Gettysburg run led to a 22-20 Bullets advantage. The score tied again three more times before the Diplomats committed two straight errors for a 26-24 Gettysburg third set win.
• The final set saw Gettysburg assert their dominance. The Bullets strode out to an 15-5 lead, using kills from five different players. Franklin & Marshall attempted to chip away at the deficit, but Gettysburg kept them 10 points away for most of the set. From 15-5 on, the closest the Diplomats would get was nine points. An 11-6 run closed out set four for the Bullets, with four different players putting down kills and giving Gettysburg the 3-1 match victory.
