Gettysburg split their season opening meet, beating McDaniel and falling to Swarthmore by just eight points.
THE LEADERS
•
Charlie Cross (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) earned first place in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, as well as the 200 IM. In the 100, Cross touched with a time of 58.42 and in the 200 he finished at 2:08.40, nearly four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. In the 200 IM, Cross swam a 1:58.09, almost two seconds faster than second place.
• Brothers Sam and
Harry Nelson (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) finished 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle, with times of 9:45.48 and 10:03.77, respectively.
Sam Nelson's 1000 freestyle time is 9:45.48 already ranks No. 5 all time in Gettysburg swimming history, on his collegiate debut in the event. The brothers also took a 1-2 finish in the 500, with Sam swimming a 4:49.81 and Harry a 4:53.60.
FOR THE FOES
• Cami Wilson of Swarthmore earned first place in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle.

• The 200 Medley Relay A-Team of
Edward Kim (Weston, Conn./Weston),
Charlie Cross,
Max McAlister (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy), and
Cort Hobelmann (Nashville, Tenn./Owensboro Catholic) placed second with a swim of 1:35.74.
• Kim and teammate
Conor Vienneau (Newburg, Md./LaPlata) finished 2-3 in the 200 freestyle, swimming a 1:45.50 and 1:47.16, respectively.

Declan Sheeran (McLean, Va./McLean) took second in the 100 breaststroke. He swam a 59.71.
• McAlister took first place in the 200 butterfly, swimming a 1:57.82. He also tied for second in the 100 butterfly, as he and Wil Kilponen of Swarthmore each swam a 51.97.
• Kim narrowly outtouched Jacob Sherman of Swarthmore in the 200 backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:54.68.
• The 400 freestyle relay team of Kim, Hobelmann,
Connor Booth (Wallingford, Conn./Suffield Academy), and McAlister placed second, swimming a 3:11.39.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Hobelmann placed third in the 100 backstroke with a swim of 53.91.

Cole Martin (Penn Laird, Va./Spotswood) placed third in the 100 freestyle, swimming a 48.18.

Luke McKenna (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) earned third place in the 500 freestyle with a swim of 4:55.08.
•
Mason Dillon (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.38.
