THE SKINNY STORY
For the second time in less than two weeks, Gettysburg took a top-20 team to overtime and came away victorious with a 3-2 double-overtime victory over No. 19 College of New Jersey.
THE LEADERS
•
Bella Bonazinga (Spring Lake, N.J./Wall) registered the game-winner for the Bullets, scoring with 4:11 to play in the second overtime.
•
Morgan Cherry (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) recorded a goal and an assist.
FOR THE FOES
• Rayhanah Ahmad and Carly Cole each had one goal and one assist for the Lions.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Rayhanah Ahmad staked College of New Jersey to a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes to play in the opening quarter, finishing a pass from Carly Cole.
• Cole then returned the favor in the 37th minute for a 2-0 Lions' lead. Nearly six minutes later,
Gaby Markunas (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) tipped in a
Morgan Cherry shot off a corner to cut the deficit in half.
• On another corner in the 51st minute, Cherry made it a one-goal, one-assist day when she finished a pass from
Sarah Scott (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) to tie the game and ultimately force overtime.
• In the 76th minute,
Jillian Somers (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) sent a ball into the circle from the left side where
Bella Bonazinga got a stick on it and redirected into the goal for the victory.
THE INSIDE STORY
• College of New Jersey finished with a 22-18 advantage in shots, including holding a 11-0 advantage in the first overtime but
Emilia Saccento (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) made seven of her nine saves in that 10 minutes.
• Gettysburg had a 15-10 advantage in penalty corners.
