THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg ran away with a 6-1 lead early in the first set and widened it to 17-10 off kills by five different Bullets. DeSales used a few Gettysburg errors to close within six, 20-14, but Gettysburg went 4-1 with the Bulldogs to get to set point quickly. Biggs had the set-ending kill to win the first margin for Gettysburg, 25-16.
• Gettysburg again got out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and brought it to 9-4 before DeSales went on a 5-0 run to tie the score 9-all. Gettysburg managed to regain their lead on two Brooke Lauletta (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown East) kills and a block by Lauletta and Biggs, but DeSales again countered with a run of four straight to take the two-point advantage. Gettysburg strung several 3-0 and 2-0 runs together to lead 23-19. Not to be counted out, DeSales killed the ball three times to close within one, 23-22. However, Gettysburg took the set two victory with an Izzy Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and Nasir ace.
• The final set saw three early ties before Gettysburg worked to a 14-11 advantage. Two straight errors and an Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) kill made it a 17-11 lead, and several more missteps allowed Gettysburg to move to 23-16. Grace Grandinetti aced the ball to make it a five-point margin, but kills by Lauletta and Ulrich ended the set and the match with a 25-18 final set score.
