THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg started the first set in a 10-4 hole, which Washington widened to 14-6 with a 4-2 run. Gettysburg mounted a comeback with a 4-2 run of their own to close within six points, 16-10. That was as close as Gettysburg would get the rest of the way as the Shorewomen put together a 9-6 run to close out the first set, 25-16.
• In the second set it was Gettysburg that began with the lead, getting up on the hosts 8-4 and stretching the lead to 13-9. Washington used two kills to battle within two points, but
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) kicked off a 6-4 Gettysburg run to make it a 20-15 Bullets advantage and force a Washington timeout. Out of the timeout Gettysburg tallied three straight points that were countered by three by Washington before an attack error ended the second set in favor of the Bullets, 25-20.
• Gettysburg began the third set down 5-0 before the team tied the score 7-all using kills by
Alycen Radolovic. Washington briefly regained the lead before
Sophie Nasir tied the score once more at 11-all with an ace. Three more ties resulted from that point, and the teams traded points to a 21-19 Gettysburg lead. The Bullets scored two more to get them to set point, but Washington stayed in the set with a 4-0 run to close within 24-23.
Catherine Holtz killed the final ball to win the second set and get up 2-1 in the match.
• In the final set, Gettysburg again started with a lead, starting up 4-2 before Washington tied the score 4-all. The score tied again three more times, the latest at 16-all, before Gettysburg used an 8-1 run to get to match point.
Brooke Lauletta (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown East) had two aces and three different Bullets registered a kill during the run.
Izzy Lugar registered the final kill of the set to end it, 25-17, and win the match 3-1.
