Gettysburg quest for CC title begins at home on Tuesday

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg will host one of the first-round games of 2023 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball championship tournament on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.

In the new six-team format in which the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds host the opening round, the third-seeded Bullets (15-10, 12-6 CC) faces sixth-seeded Franklin & Marshall (12-13, 7-11 CC) in one of the first-round games. Fourth-seeded Muhlenberg (17-8, 12-6 CC) hosts fifth-seeded Ursinus (15-10, 10-8 CC) in the night's other game at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Gettysburg-Franklin & Marshall game will play at second-seeded Swarthmore (22-3, 16-2 CC) in one semifinal on Friday. That game will begin at 7 p.m. The Muhlenberg-Ursinus winner advances to top-seeded Johns Hopkins (22-3, 16-2 CC) in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship game, which will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed. Game time will be finalized following the semifinals on Friday.

The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on Mar. 3. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday.

Admission to each tournament game is $5 for adults and $3 for youth, ages 13-18. Children under 12 and students from participating institutions with a valid ID are free.

The Bullets are seeking their fourth conference title and first since 2009. It is the 16th tournament appearance for Gettysburg and second straight. The Bullets also in search of their fifth NCAA tournament bid.

In the regular-season meetings between the Bullets and Diplomats, Gettysburg swept the season series, including a 67-55 win at Bream Gym on Jan. 12.

Sophomore Carl Schaller (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game. He also paces the squad with 59 assists and 26 steals. Sophomore Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammond) and senior Elijah Williams (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) are also averaging double figures. Stafford is averaging 11.3 ppg to go with 51 assists, 22 blocks and 13 steals. Williams is averaging 10.0 ppg and a team-best 6.1 rebounds per game.

Junior Ryan McKeon (Landenberg, Pa./Sanford [Del.]) has added 9.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 48 total blocks.
