Swarthmore, ranked 15th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, scored 13 straight points midway through the first half to open up a double-digit lead and defeat Gettysburg 95-81 in the semifinals of the 2023 Centennial Conference men's basketball tournament.

Antonello Baggi (Cremona, Italy/West Deptford [N.J.) hit a 3-pointer to open the game for Gettysburg before Vinny DeAngelo and Michael Caprise scored six straight to take a three-point lead with 15:53 on the clock. An
Elijah Williams (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) 3-pointer and
Carl Schaller jumper made it 8-6 in favor of the Bullets. Trailing 11-9 after a
Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) three-point play with 13:59 remaining, George Corzine converted a layup that sparked the game-changing 13-0 run over a span of just 3 minutes, 23 seconds.
• The teams then traded buckets until a pair of
Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) layups keyed an 7-0 run that closed the deficit to 33-27 with 5:19 to play in the half. An Aidan Godfrey layup stretched the Garnet lead back out to 45-29 with 1:25 on the clock en route to a 49-34 halftime advantage.
• DeAngelo and Caprise extended the lead to 19 just 83 seconds into the second half. Gettysburg would get no closer than 17 while Swarthmore ballooned the lead as large as 27 until eight straight points from Schaller and a Stafford triple cut into the deficit, making it 92-79 with 47 ticks left.

Carl Schaller's 33 points were the most by a Gettysburg player since Kevin Gladstone netted 33 in a first-round win over McDaniel on Feb. 24, 2016.
